The magic of Mac hardware is the packaging, not the design, components or assembly. Most of Apple's designs are materially similar to reference designs produced by Intel, AMD, et al - that is precisely why Hackintoshes are a possibility these days. There is nothing high-end about any of Apple's capacitors or soldering - it is all decidedly lowest-bidder and made in China right along side any of the major brands.
Apple is rich because they are selling $300 iPhones for $600 and $600 Mac Book Pros for $1200, the highest margins in the business. The BOMs for Apple products are within pennies of HTC's BOMs for their phones and Dell's BOM's for their laptops. There is nothing on a "quality" level that separates a $600 Dell laptop from a $1200 Mac - except $600. This has been established repeatedly with hardware teardowns.
Apple doesn't become the richest company in America because they are selling smaller volumes of higher quality products at lower prices. They become the richest company in America because they are selling the exact same stuff everyone else is, but charging twice as much for it.
Whatever secret sauce Apple may have once had in the Motorola or PPC days is long gone. What they have now is shiny packages wrapping up the same stuff as everyone else. You are of course entitled to your own opinions, but this stuff has all been pretty well documented at this point.
