I have been spending about $52/week (~13 gallons of gas @ $4.00/gal) to run our 17 mpg Audi A6 Avant (EPA rating: 15/22 - 18 mpg average) about 12,000 miles per year or 231 miles/week. This comes to $229 per month or $2748 per year! Plus, the Audi (long out of warranty) was requiring regular, expensive repairs - I will miss it in the winter however.

Different story on an electric car (no, I don't want to sound like I'm a shill for a certain car). At $2.80 of local electricity per 100 miles (see calculations at link), 12,000 miles will cost $336 per year, or $28 per month. I admit that not all of the 12,000 miles will be driven on electric power only, but the difference is still going to be huge.
