Unfortunately, I can see it happening Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 18 Jul 2015 05:31:39 In Reply to: The Next Biggest Investment Opportunity..., Scott Paterson [Profile/Gallery] , Fri, 17 Jul 2015 17:36:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I already see posts on-line, following every highway accident news story, pleading for faster development of autonomous cars to end the slaughter on our roadways. Huh? These people have never had their PC or smart phone sudedenly stop working for no reason? They actually believe an autonomous vehicle will stop all traffic accidents and never fail to operate?
What also scares me is that those of us who enjoy driving our cars may find our pastime forced into extinction because our vehicles cannot communicate with the automated mechanical devices on the highway.
Senseless fools will see these new vehicles as free chauffers. Get in the car, give it voice directions, than drift off to sleep until you arrive at your destination.
Texting is illegal yet I see people doing it every day (usually at slow speeds while drifting across multiple lanes of traffic), cell phone use while driving is illegal in may states but the laws appear to have had no impact, reading a book while driving, using the rear view mirror for personal grooming while driving, eating two-handed sandwiches or other food while driving, etc.
Unfortunately autonomous cars will happen but the auto insurance industry will not die. Instead, it will be used to protect the auto manufacturers from the liability claims.
What? I have to pay someone to do maintenance on my car too? I shouldn't have to pay for a new starter motor on my 3-year old car simply because the warranty expired! (I actually read this comment this past week attached to an article on extended vehicle warranties)
OK, rant over
