We wanted a practical wagon to replace our 9-5 - but those do not exist anymore. Ended up with Rav4 Hybrid. It seems to be order of magnitude more reliable than Saab and 40 mpg is hard to beat. In Limited trims it has a lot of bells and whistles. You can get Lexus NX hybrid or Venza for better quality materials with the same 40 mpg powertrain. Our other car is Lexus ES hybrid sedan.
With Lexus/Toyota you can get full dealer-type service manuals and diagnostic software for very little money - a big plus for me as we keep our cars long time and I do most of the repairs/maintenance.
I do care if those car are considered boring - I have '77 MGB V8 roadster to keep me happy in this regard.
