That's my take on Volvo's too. It's new and he hasn't had it that long. Seems like the last I looked in Consumer Reports they were better. VW's aren't too good either. I've owned my share of cars that weren't rated well (like Saab, VW, and Jeep Wranglers). Saabs and VW's were fine and both Wranglers were bullet proof. I'd take a chance on a new Volvo, you'd have the length of the warranty to find out and I think they pay for routine maintenance. Along that line I was looking at a 4xE Wrangler hybrid and it was $65K! I thought for that money I could get a Land Rover (they're all fantastic looking), specifically the new Defender (which I'm smitten by). I priced out a two door with everything I'd ever want and it came up to $68K. I kind of looked into them and holy crap, turns out Land Rover's are every bit as bad as their reputation would suggest and then some. There's a lot of stuff the dealers can't even fix under warranty. It's fun to look but the Honda is so good at everything and it's fun to drive too. Don't think I could let it go.
