Thanks JerseySaab.
Unfortunately the timing chain engines come with a host of other problems...
The 2011 OB is a fine example of a franken-car because it has so many changes as compared to a 2010 OB that even dedicated Subie mechanics get those repairs wrong.
(We learned this the hard way with much excessive expense.)
We are old enough folks that it may be whichever car comes next will be our last in this life, and that is what attracts me to cars like that 2008 & even older ones IF they are in good enough shape.
In my youth we always had cars which could easily be repaired with simple, non-electronic parts.
I've worked on computers exclusively for well over 20 years & can say that technology is NOT the solution to most problems because it becomes the problem itself all too often.
When her 2011 had a recall I was subjected to using a 2021 OB loaner for a couple of days - and it horrified me;
To me it was not even a car, but instead it was a rolling BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death).
If trash like that is the ONLY choice I'll go without, thanks.
