Lots of things reveal low quality on the subies IMO=>
The fuel tanks tend to fracture randomly MINUS any impacts - which then reveals that to change that out (besides finding an unbroken one...) what they use as the main rear suspension member is usually rotted beyond reuse, and secured with 2 seriously long and always frozen bolts.
When your indie lifts the car up & shows how that frame member has rotted away along with the area behind & under the back seats it is a death sentence for a car which still runs perfectly.
The seats are indeed horribly not adjustable enough to avoid discomfort even on a 1 hour drive.
All the above relates with cars from BEFORE the time when those geniuses added CVT, VVT, and unlimited/impossible to diagnose CEL evap system codes.
Adding even MORE electronic complications does not make any of the above better in any manner.
My Saabs have ALL stayed solid underneath for many more years than all the subies I've ever known.
I have looked into maybe scoring a CRV for her when needed, but around here those are like gold - folks love 'em & tend to keep 'em around forever.
My ultimate goal (as a retired man with limited income) is to keep her in a car that need NOT require 'snacks' of ~$2000 and/or replacement due to rot after just a few years.
Our limited finances DO NOT allow consideration to be given to fancier/more $pendy cars;
It is that simple.
