I'm not a Subaru fanatic, the only model they make that I'd consider would be an Outback. I see way too many Subarus in CO yes there is that me too and lemming sort of thing taking place, I know lots of people that drive roos. But the company has made significant strides in both quality and design so I disagree when posts that pretty much say they are 2nd rate autos.
My Hyundai Sante Fe is the wife's car - buying that for her allowed me to sell my tired 1999 9-5 and become the driver of the 2004 9-5 Arc which is a car I enjoy driving. The Hyundai has the attributes to keep the wife happy - heated steering wheel, pano sun roof, AWD and it's a good ski/road car with lots of space, comfortable seats, power (264 hp) and it's quieter with a better HVAC than the Saab.
What I am in the market for is an older 4 x 4 that I can get into rugged backcountry roads in CO for hunting and fishing trips, taking a newer CUV or SUV not intended for back country use is asking for trouble, I already blew out a 19" tire on the Sante Fe on a back road excursion, 19" tires are not cheap.
But a lot of newer cars now have thinner windshields and thin wiring all in the interest of fuel economy. No Subaru in my immediate future, too much of a me too vehicle.
