Mobil 1 5w40 Turbo Diesel Truck oil is the the best oil to use in 9-5's. Especially the Aeros.
I did extensive research that included used oil analysis at Blackstone labs. Mobil 1 0w40 in our engines shears down way to quick to a 30 or 20 weight oil. To start with its barely a 40 weight oil out the bottle. I had to add oil in the 2 5k intervals when I used Mobil 1 0w40 in my 04 Aero.
I briefly used Amsoil Euro 5w40 but have been using Mobil 1 5w40 Turbo Diesel Truck as its much cheaper. (Advance auto has a deal right now for $30 that includes 5 quarts of Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 filter.)
Somoneone on Bob is the oil guy website did extensive tests with both Mobil 1 0w40 and 5w40 TDT in their 03 9-5 Aero. Mobil 1 0w40 is still a great oil but I think the 5w40 is the way to go.
My recent UOA (Used Oil Analysis) showed Mobil 1 5w40 TDT is the ideal oil for 9-5's, especially the Aeros. At 5k this oil returned far superiour results than M1 0w40. Dont get me wrong M1 0w40 is a great oil but my results have me sticking with the M1 5w40 TDT.
First reaction: this engine definitely likes the Delvac1 oil (Mobil 1 5w40 TDT? (in whatever marketing package) better than GC, which is a great compliment, because it wasn't bad on the GC. Check out the previous results (link above) for a full history back to my first UOA, which shows a test with M1 0W-40. That M1 was a great oil too, I'm sure, but the GC clearly outperformed it, so I'm really happy with the D1.
