Sure there are lots of opinions, but manufacturers did specify thinner oils to lower their corporate average fuel economy in the US, which is why cars here often have thinner oil recommendations then they do overseas. GM in particluar needed to offset their popular, but gas guzzling SUVs so they specifeid thinner oils... some people have had good results with thin oils though, but my 04 9-5 just seems happer with 5W40....some brands it is happier then others.
