The expense and hassle is more the alignment than the ends themselves (though the Moog ends aren't that cheap) I realize that I can wiggle the wheels to feel for play. Is that an adequate test? From the discussion, it makes sense that grime getting in could destroy the joint, perhaps quickly enough to become dangerous. Then one does have to change the joints when the boot tears and that seems to conflict with some folks opinions here. New joints are inexpensive relative to the safety issues of a catastrophic failure.
