can't remember the diameter of the dowel pin pattern, but I think it is possible to time the flywheel and punch the pins out from the back side with the lump still in the car. May have to remove the starter or locate a through hole in the rear plate (or whatever that thing is called). the location would be on the drivers side if it is possible.
Certainly start with Bill's suggestion of attempting to pull a pin out from the front side first. maybe try brushing on a little 50-50 ATF/Acetone mix before going after a pin to help if rust is an issue.
BTW, I replaced a friction disk due to contamination but there is a member or two here who did successfully clean one in the past i believe. unfortunately, i can't remember any particular key words to search.
