I've looked into pulling out the pins but haven't had to on a pesky removal yet. However, another member, Lancer used a method where he pulled the starter and punched out the pins forward after the interference of the starter motor cleared the path. Do one pin, rotate, and continue until you get it loose. He put it back in that way and I think didn't compress the fingers on the pressure plate, but inserted the whole mess, bolted it up and then punched the pins back in to the rear.
We noticed up to a .010" interference on a brand new pressure plate / flywheel combo, so now I have the pressure plates fitted to the flywheel by ever so slightly enlarging the holes of the pressure plate or just giving the holes on the pressure plate a slight chamfer to help guide the holes to seat on the dowel pins.
By the way the machine shop doesn't call them "dowel pins" ---- they are correctly pronouced "dahlPins" .....said all run together very quickly said. The faster the better.
