You need to keep in mind, if the parts are all in there they probably all fitted thru as a package without pulling the pins when they went in.
So, they should be packable into a tight enough bunch to all come out as a package.
Do you have the pressure plate depressed enough, with the "Saab Special Tool" fitted in to keep the fingers depressed?
Many people on here have posted that there are alternatives to the Saab ring tool, including the handle wire off a 5 gallon plastic bucket, some gauge or other of heavy copper wire, or the outer cable housing of a bicycle brake cable.
I miked the Saab special tool once and found it to be exactly .160" in thickness so that's what you're shooting for if you have another spacer than that. Keep in mind that the Saab tool is not round wire but rectangular in cross section, taller than wide, so it fits out further into the pressure plate.
With a nod to Rocky and Bullwinkle, Mr. Sherman, you could always ask Mr. Peabody.
