RS would point out that the as installed pressure plate ( in 1990 ) is an AP unit that has a thinner cross section than the Sachs PP. Though they fit in the same space, the shorter ( thinner ) AP unit will allow the slave to escape the grips of the fingers without too much trouble. Because the Sachs unit is deeper ( thicker ), it captures the slave to the point you have to bundle it together so the whole mess fits into the area. I measured a Saab ring at .150 thick and it was crammed into a Sachs unit to the point it wouldn't come out, but it was not in the car, and it was very hard to move the fingers. I'll measure a couple more that I just got from eeuro.
I bet that they put it together without the dahlPins installed and then jammed them in after the PP was bolted on. They are either too long or not seated to the bottom, and therefore, RS can't get the PP to retract far enough to slide it out......
