re: ignition switch under the key (+ will test cable resistance) Posted by iveand [Email] (#3155) [Profile/Gallery] (more from iveand) on Tue, 9 Aug 2022 07:46:53 In Reply to: Re: When stranded...., Simon S, Tue, 9 Aug 2022 07:37:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Thanks, I do recall reading / seeing posts about this, it sure could be. Until now the problem has been when I am stranded I don't have test equipment. But I need to review (while working) what is sending voltage where.
I think testing the wire on the starter is what I need to do: when working when a helper turns the key I should see this wire get voltage (and the starter will turn). When not working, I should see low (or no?) voltage at this wire and thus no starter activity?
Now to dig around the board to see if this is right, and if it can be bypassed as I guess it is hard to source a good ignition switch replacement?
Note I will also test cable resistance between battery, alternator, and starter to make sure those are in spec. It seems my battery is slowly being drawn down (I could have multiple things going on).
Thanks again to everyone, I have some things to check (most need a helper, I have a few willing kids to turn a key for me :-)
