Thanks for the search clues. I did have the center console / kick panel out to check all the wires (esp. at the fender where previous posters suggested there may be a spotty connection / insulation / grounding issue), I did clean out the underneath of the console and re-did the power window switches but did NOT touch any of the ignition switch connectors. This very well could be the issue.
BTW reverse lockout was removed prior to my ownership and the key is not the easiest to turn... it certainly is worn in there maybe I need to disassemble the ignition switch and r&r it regardless....
