Great to hear of your success. Sometimes the alternator needs a little higher revs to start working. Just probably going to be a thing with your current alternator.
As far as the old one putting the light out instantly but not charging sufficient it was probably some version of the corrosion or the vr not sitting well. Think of like 1 strand of a wire being good and the other strands being bad if you check resistance it will read good like .1 ohms, but it will be unable to carry any current so it doesn't do its job.
On you oil light, the sensor is right there above the oil filter. Maybe it got removed, is making bad contact, or the wire broke. It should be a blue wire I believe. Good Luck, Bernie
