Thanks again to the discussion before from Hans and Canada Karl (from 2011) I made the 'pentapus' (octopus with 5 legs).... actually I made it a "hexapus" since getting all 5 wires into a single spade connector seemed better to have a 'pigtail' off of it. Anyway, as discussed before, here is a brief summary of how it works:
Connect spades to red, green, white-green, and white-gray wires.
When connect spade to gray wire, that is "key on" ("run") position.
When touch NON-spade wire to yellow, starter will be engaged.
So by doing that I can successfully "hot wire" my car.
Some notes:
- NO pulsing from the battery / oil pressure lights when cranking starter (would pulse even when "running", again when "NO START" these lights would go completely dark when turning key to crank position). With the "hot wire" these lights stay bright and solid the whole time it cranks.
- starter cranks much faster.
So this seems like some good indications, but again I don't think I will know until I am back in a hot parking lot after driving it around first (and then won't know for a few weeks of doing this to build up my confidence).
Additional notes:
- I had a helper "crank" (well touch yellow wire) while I tested voltage drop across + battery to starter, - battery to frame, and no obvious voltage drop, so I think (???) these cables are OK.
- With no wires connected to ignition, I tested ohms from the gray to the yellow pins while having the key in the "crank" position, no obvious resistance, but it did take a few seconds to register.... so maybe there was resistance but only for a second or 2?
- When in "hot parking lot" maybe I will test the ohms from gray to yellow pins on ignition to see if there is any resistance there when it is hot?
Again it is hard to confirm anything because in my cool garage I haven't had issues before. These intermittent gremlins are enough to have me second guess all parts of my life all at once :-(
I'll keep updating here with any further findings.
