250 HP with all wheel drive is great! I test drove a Legacy recently and unfortunately it sticks to the ground like nothing else in it's price range. Shop around and you're looking at $26K or so for a 5spd manual sedan; I'm guessing not too much more for an Outback (no more station wagon Legacy for the US).
Comparing it to any Saab is not fair as the Saabs are far more expensive when equipped similarly. And the Saab will be at a disadvantage in the snow.
Check out the latest JD Power results as well; Saab is fourth from the bottom (below even VW). Subaru is 9th from the top (above the average as well). See link for more details.
I love my Saab but my next car will likely be a 2007/2008 Subaru Legacy sedan.
