I have to admit, I drove my saab on some dirt roads last week and it just felt wrong. Is a Subaru really any more rugged than a normal car? The Forester looks like it has some clearance, but the Outback seems low to the ground with all that trim.
Winter issues aside, mountain living involves lots of freeway miles that end in short trips down dirt roads. It is tough to find something that combines gas mileage with durability. Many folks up there seem to think that the Honda CRV is the answer. Ugh
