Most botched DIY auto repair, any good stories ?

I've posted numerous times here, and can't recall initiating a post, but have been a DIY mechanic for decades. My story:
Replacing a leaky output shaft seal on my old 64 Chevy auto 2 spd 283 cid .
I recall running into problems getting the universal bolts undone, so the job was taking longer than planned. When the driveshaft was removed, a bunch of the roller bearings fell out of the U joint and dissapeared down a crack in the garage floor. I had a date that night, so I hastily put back all the bearings I could find, more than a few were missing and put the driveshaft back.
Of course later on that night an increasing vibration from the car was noticed by my date, and I said not to worry, and then heard a thump and although pressing on the gas pedal, the car was coasting to a halt. Driveshaft was of course a few hundred yards back in the road.
Had to hoof it to the nearest phone booth for that embarassing ride home.
