Bought a barn GTO for my father and I to restore, but we never got around to it. We needed the garage space this winter so I had to move it, and brilliant me, I'm thinking 'under its own power would be best'. It hadn't been turned over in 6 years. 326 with 4bbl, not original engine...but in movable shape.

I changed the oil (which had turned to jello), got a little fresh oil in each cylinder, cleaned the carb, new plugs, I was going start it 'right'. But, the brakes had all rusted solid...ended up dragging it, on 4 skidding tires, out of the garage with a tow rope and my trusty 900SE. No use burning down the garage trying to start it...

Outside, it cranked and cranked, with obligatory smoke, backfiring, air cleaner leaping off, etc. until I got a good, if short, idle. A few more times and I got it revving, good oil pressure, but there was something wrong...smoke pouring out of the passenger side breather, I walked 'round to take a look and BANG...

...a pile of wadding shoots out of the passenger side exhaust -- mouse nest, complete with mouse doing his best impression of the Outpost.com gerbil. Poor little guy didn't make it.

I'd like to think he led a long, fruitful life in the glasspack and expired before I got there...I figured mice would flee given all the air tool noise and movement. My sister has since filled the garage with D-Con.

I still felt bad, even though 'shot out of the back of a musclecar' probably beats 'slowly poisoned' as a way to go.
