On my B-engined '78 EMS, during my first attempt to set the valves I let go of the cam gear after detatching it from the cam.
For those who know this engine, you know that as soon as the timing chain goes slack the adjuster extends all the way, meaning that before you can reattach the cam gear you have to reset the adjuster, and on a 99 this means PULLING THE ENTIRE DRIVETRAIN!
Me: unemployed; Saab dealer: 50 miles away. So I begged some garage space (girlfriend's parents), bought some tools, rented an engine hoist and, using the shop manual, taught myself how to R&R a Saab drivetrain. I didn't break TOO many things in the process, but still had to make more than one trip to the dealer for parts and specialty tools. IIRC it took almost two weeks.
Ah, foolish youth.
