Hey guys. My father and I are going to be getting a home stereo system for the house soon, nothing too crazy. Target cost is $1000 or so...perhaps as much as $1500 for the whole setup (receiver, CD changer, turntable, pair of floor speakers). And lets just say a 2 channel stereo system for now, not home theatre.
I don't have much experience in this area. What brands are good for each component of the system? (One brand may be better at receivers, and another brand better at CD changers). Names that I've always thought were pretty good simply from word of mouth for components are Onkyo, Denon, etc...and I've always heard Polk makes good floor stereo speakers.
Also, what kind of power output is typical? Looking at basic Onkyo receivers, the best I see is 100wattsX2. The little Aiwa minisystem in my room is 80X2. Is 100X2 decent? I think I receiver like that was about $299.
Also, if I want to also add a powered subwoofer, is that easy? Since the receiver is 2 channel, how does the sub connect?
Remember my price constraints when making any suggestions :) Thanks for any advice guys.
