NAD provides amazing bang for buck performance. When changing to a surround sound setup I auditioned several HT receivers. None of them sounded as good as the NAD (T760) in stereo and even a monstrously expensive top of the line Denon couldn't beat it. I can also recommend Dali speakers, which sound great without being extremely expensive. Don't know if it is sold in the States though.
Regarding subs, SVS are amazing but a bit too big for most people. I like B&W subs too (especially the ASW675), but like most Hifi it's a matter of personal taste. So whatever product you look at, remember to listen to it before buying. Try to audition as much as possible.
For your setup I'd recommend a NAD C320BBE amp, a NAD C521BBE CD-player and maybe a NAD tuner. If you get good enough floor stander speakers, you shouldn't need a sub. It's also a bit messy to properly connect a sub to a stereo amp. Consider if you maybe want a surround sound setup instead.
