Having had a few different cars, I can't say Japanese are ALWAYS boring, or whatever... You gotta compare particular models, not 'ALL HONDAS' or whatever make you say.
My '95 Integra GSR is way more fun to drive than our '98 Accord. Both are Hondas (obviously). The GSR is more fun than our '01 base 9³, lighter, more responsive.
I had a '72 Datsun 510 which was in many ways a blatant ripoff of the small BMW. When I got a '74 tii, it was faster but somehow more cumbersome & less 'fun' to drive.
