but Bugatti has a 1001hp engine.
W-16 configuration, 4! turbochargers, 8.0L, 64 valves.
totally impractical, I know, but I think it's pretty neat that someone out there is trying to break barriers and see how far they can go.
Their website has a really neat animation describing the different features and engineering aspects (really just a fancy commercial).
Click on the link below and choose your language. You'll have to go through some menus, so here's the path to the engine stuff.
Models => Veyron 16.4 => Engineering => Engine => Legends from 1001 HP (at bottom of page). Have fun!
As far as the other engines you mentioned, I'm not familiar with all of them, but I find the rotary engines by Mazda to be fascinating. I'm not totally convinced by the technology, however, there is one fact that just blows me away.
Traditional 4 cylinder engine = 40+ moving parts
Wenkel single rotor engine = 3 moving parts
From what I know (which I'll admit, isn't much), fewer moving parts could possibly lead to greater reliability. Obviously, since Mazda has not stormed the world with "cars that just won't die" this isn't exactly the case. But idea for the rotary engine, and the concepts associated with it, I just find extremely interesting.
Just my (non-engineering degree certified) opinion.
Looking forward to reading this thread--I'm thinking that I'll learn a lot!
