like stated below, I think they do not have much torque. Comparing the s2000's numbers to a viggen's numbers I feel give some info on the complete lack of torque the s2000's have. Also read the writeups especially on the first engine in the cars how they have nothing below 6K or so.
I also prefer engine's which develop equal or more torque then HP, just like saab's do. Being able to run a car to 8-10K I am sure is fun however I would much rather sacrifice a few RPM's to give me more torque everywhere
FWIW here are a few engine's in Car & Driver
Mazdaspeed 6 138 cu in 4 cyl 274 HP 280 tq
suzuki reno 122 cu in 126 hp 131 tq
older/original mini cooper with honda vtec 110 cu in 220 hp 132 tq
cobalt ss 122 cu in 205 hp 200 tq
evo8 122 cu in 276 hp 286 tq
sti 150 cu in 300 hp 300 tq
my 2000 saab viggen 213 whp & 268 wtq
SPG 121 cu in 165 hp 198 tq
