Driving fast and driving alert are not mutually exclusive.
There is a time and a place for driving with alacrity.
Lateley I seem to follow folks not only traveling a rural road very deliberately but using 150% of the lane alloted.
It's my personal opinion that distractions and inattentiveness are far more dangerous than appropriate speed (which I define speed limit +10mph when it's 40mph hr or more).
Not assuming I know what caused the tragic crash here, but a 9-5 will certainly cruise fast enough, smoothly enough to get an inexperienced in trouble.
