I think aging is at least as much mental as it is physical. (Unfortunate situations like Alzheimers' not included). I guess for a lot of us the hard part is having the judgement to recognize diminished limitations, while still not descending into full blown "I can't". I realize I'm not 21 any more, but I don't feel like I'm missing anything for the intervening years either, and I know that for everything I don't do as well as I did then, there are probably at least ten things that I do much better. Paul Newman finished 3rd in his class in the 1994 Daytona 24 hrs (obviously sharing the driving with co-drivers!), but at 70 he belonged on that track at least as much as anybody else there, and very possibly belonged more than many others. George H.W. Bush has jumped out of aeroplanes on his 75th and 80th birthdays.
It would be great to see you at the SOC. With an 18-month old and a heavy work schedule right now, I will most likely just stop by there one day. I think I have your email somewhere, I will send you my cell number so we don't miss each other there! I've never been to an SOC, just the Swedish Car Days, so I'm sure it will be a lot of fun. I will probably be alone, since it's probably easier to find shade in the Sahara than it is at Devens!
