I fortunately do not yet have any first hand experience of joint replacements, but I do have dodgy knees, and have been warned for many years that at least one knee replacement will likely be in my future... so, it is something I have done some research on, and paid attention to over the years. My mother-in-law had a knee replacement in her late 50's, about 15 years ago, and never regained her full range of motion afterward, though was significantly improved after the surgery. A few years ago she had a hip replacement (other side) and became like a new person overnight. An acquaintance of mine had similar knee problems to mine, only that his are more acute, and has had surgery at least twice, because his doctor really wanted him to get to age 50 before having a knee replacement. At times, in his mid 30's, the pain and inconvenience was so bad that he thought about trying to convince his doctor to just give him a replacement then. Ultimately, he took on a less punishing role at work (he's a contractor, so as the company grew he was able to naturally move away from physical work, which helped him a lot). But something that seems very true with joint replacements is YMMV - your mileage may vary. Everyone gets different results; your own physical make-up, your doctor, your ability and willingness to do all the recovery therapy, your physical therapist (no, I'm not one, PT = Pa Taket) will all be factors in your recovery. As I'm sitting here with my feet tucked under my chair, I realize that I wouldn't be doing this if one of my knees only had 90 deg range of motion. But, there are some things that don't always turn out with the best imaginable results, but they do still provide very withwhile results. It sounds like you have a good doctor & phys therapist, and have done everything you could do to positively influence the outcome. You could always seek a second opinion, I'm thinking I'd start with asking to see a second physical therapist, preferably one who is not familiar with either your current PT or doctor, just to hear what they have to say from an uninfluenced professional opinion.
