This is the most weight ever put in the car and was done exclusively for the purposes of demonstrating the problem to the dealer. I chose this weight specifically because there is a margin of safety between it and the load limits. This is also why I intentially left less than half a tank of gas (5.8 to 6.5 lbs/gallon). If I took a 100-200 pounds out of the car it would make little difference. The subframe yields due to a design defect. The springs are too week and the shocks insufficient. Saab knew to replace the subframe because they know about the defect.

The it’s not a truck argument is unfounded. A dealer told me to get a different car as have others on the BB, but none of these arguments are based in fact.

Curb Weight can be
1) The car + fluids + a driver (but without passengers)
2) The car + fluids (but without passengers)

Saab in my 2003 manual states on pg 258 "Permissible load (in addition to driver) = GVW minus curb weight" so clearly Saab used definition 1 above.

The curb weight is 60/40 F/R. The gross weight is 50/50. So for my car that gives (approximately as the curb weight isn't given on my placard):
CW: 2244/1496
GVW: 2330/2330
load available based on GVW: 86/834
axle limits: 2590/2480
load available based on axle limits: 346/984
door jamb load limit: 920
The axle limits exceed Saab's door jamb load numbers and any loads I have put in the car.

Also, the load is not entirely on the rear suspension. Some load is transmitted to the front of the car. Even if it is 80/20 rear biased, there is no way I am coming close to the axle limit as only 640 lb would be bearing on the rear suspension.

Saab’s UK site gives curb weights similar to my 2003 manual. According to Wikipedia most EU manufacturers include a 75 kg driver in the curb weight.
