... and maybe Saab can revive SPG. And maybe they will go back to a model plan that makes distinctions between 9-3 and 9-5s. i.e. Aero being applied only to 9-5s,not all models. I never quite understood GM's approach of watering down the Aero distinction and the nonsensical naming such as arc and linear. The regime of old was rather effective: 900S, 900S Turbo, 900S Turbo; 9000S, 9000CS, 9000CSE, 9000 Aero. Offer a naturally aspirated car, a turbo charged car, and a tuned car, and let me pick appointments of my choosing.
While 9-3 and 9-5 signal something new and is a textbook marketing strategy, most everything else GM did (from the Aero dilution to making the front-ends look the same) created too close a synergy between the 9-3 and 9-5s. GM looked around at BMW, Audi, etc., and attempted to create Saabs that fit those molds. We all know the changes, so no need rehashing them. But I would argue that GM's attempt to make Saab more like BMW 3s, 5s and Audi A4, A6, did ultimately more damage to Saab than good.
Maybe someone in Saab will recognize what made Saabs special and act to return Saab to its unique place.
