I know there are probably some people out there who would have major reservations about buying a vehicle through the internet. I presume most of it is fear of the unknown and a bit outside of the average consumer's comfort zone. Understandable, I suppose, but I would definitely be in favor of a more "e-commerce" approach to buying a vehicle, especially if it's more cost-effective for both the manufacturer/dealer and consumer.
I've bought all of my Saabs online sight-unseen. Most people would probably advise against it, but I have yet to have a less-than-perfect transaction. Needless to say, there were always lots of questions and lots of pictures. For me, it was either a Saab online or no Saab at all...there is zilch market for Saabs in this part of Texas, new and/or used. I flew to Dallas and drove my first Saab home, had my second Saab shipped here via truck from Rhode Island, flew to Chicago and drove my third Saab home, and had my fourth and current Saab delivered here from Missouri.
I have also bought a new vehicle online. Our local Nissan dealership is absolutely horrible, even though I tried to buy through them. After a couple weeks of spinning my tires (pun partially intended), I decided to get online and save myself the stress and hassle. All it took was a few e-mail exchanges and I was on my flight to Denver to take delivery of my Titan. The dealer I worked with does a LOT of online transactions and even had a dedicated shuttle from Denver to their dealership in Greeley. They were fully aware of my time-schedule, so they had everything ready to go when I arrived. I signed a few papers and was out the door and on the road back to Texas within an hour or so. They went above-and-beyond any reasonable expectation to ensure that my experience was as flawless as possible...it was that and so much more. If Saab could offer an online purchase even remotely close to my experience, sign me up! I did take a Titan for an overnight test-drive from my local Nissan dealership so I could know exactly what I was getting, so there would have to be some type of local dealership network, but inventory would only need to be extremely limited.
I don't see the majority of consumers viewing the whole internet-buying thing as a big plus, but it's still an interesting idea. Anyway, to each his own. Drive safely and KEEP ON SAABING!!!
