Independent Saab dealerships will absolutely kill Saab in the US. Even marketing Saabs with Cadillac (as my dealer is) has been a real struggle. And GM's Saab marketing, as bad as it is, was far better than it was before GM bought it. At least I periodically see Saab ads now. Didn't before.
The only way this could work for Saab is for GM to let Saab make the cars and then let GM dealerships here sell them.
Many dealerships are going to fail. Many have failed already. For dealerships to survive, they need to sell several brands of cars, which complement each other.
You guys fail to appreciate how the cars of small independent companies (Saab, Volvo, Jaguar) will have to be sold here if these companies are not part of a much bigger company. And where will the financing to get and operate a dealership come from? There is no money right now.
And the problem for Saab will be what it has always been; it will continue to be the stepchild at whatever dealer sells it.
While I think it is great that the Swedes will have the R&D and manufacturing back in Sweden, I just can't see them having any US dealer network that works unless it is piggybacked onto a large company.
