Every time a dealership changes hands the factory stipulates that the franchise must be stand alone or have it's own identity and showroom. Old established dealers can hang on without upgrading, but as they roll over to new owners the dual dealership concept, one showroom and service department for two or more brands, is becoming history.
Even GM stores that acquire Saab like many Cadillac dealers must have a separate, not inexpensive, Saab themed showroom and signage.
Most fun I ever had was my first car job in 1973, a tiny dealer in Chula Vista called Harrison that sold Fiats, Triumphs, Renaults, Subarus and Land Rovers, in the glory days. Quite an education.
