And what did you expect accomplish by this diatribe?

Hmm... well, now that you've complained and alienated many of the people on this website, I now have a GREAT warm and fuzzy feeling and just want to LEAP down to my dealer and do obeisance to him.
Seriously. Where is this supposed to go? Do you honestly think that Saab people are the only ones who do this? I own Audis (and have owned several Saabs) and I do the exact same thing to dealers. BUT, I'll tell you this, that may change. Certainly not because of your pissing and moaning, but, because my local Audi dealership is doing something different. They now price match. If I get an estimate on parts and/or labor that is less than what they quote me, they will match the other guy's price. They also give you a 20% discount on parts if your car is more than 10 years old. They also discount labor. Their rate is $14 LESS per hour than my indy. Plus, they do free loaners, they have all of the dealer perks, and they're nice people - they respect that I DIY EVERYTHING and they don't hold that against me.
If a dealer wants to compete with indys and DIY-ers, they need to get off their high horse and see it from where WE are. My local Audi dealership seems to have done just that. I know that I'll use them for parts now because they're much closer to me than the auto parts store is.
John, this is a small, well connected community. One way or another, what seems to be your complaint and disdain for your potential customers may come back to haunt you. I'd hate to see people avoid what sounds like a good dealership because they know that you're there. Saab owners aren't the only people who do this. And, of course, the moniker "stealerships" didn't become commonplace overnight. Dealerships have continually shot themselves in the foot by being greedy and assuming that they already have their market sown up and that their clientele will seek them out automatically. You can at least TRY to compete.
