yeah, narrow tall tires /w substantial treads sure helps in deep snow... I remember waiting at the tire shop + listening to the salesman trying to explain to a younger guy why he should probably not be looking for wide low profile snow tires (though advantageous in some conditions, deep snow/slush is not one!)...
It's always fun to drive the Saabs in snow... they're meant for it! while probably not better than many other cars having AWD, I don't find they hold us back, or that I feel the need for AWD + the associated weight + fuel penalties... our Saabs drive circles around most cars in winter already... having read recent comments from saabnet users re "the best" saabs for snow, I'd love to take a 99 (or a 96) out for a spin in winter... our c900s are a blast, but a smoother undercarriage might be even better! not a lot of 99's around here any more though - most have probably succumbed to rust... that's the double edged sword of winter around here... all the darn salt!
happy new year + good luck with your potential real estate purchase!
James...
