I also live in Chicago and thought that I was happy with all-season tires previously. A few years ago, I upgraded to 16" Aero wheels/tires on my 9000 CS (FPT), so I had a spare set of 15" wheels lying around. Faced with a miserable commute out to Schaumburg each day, I decided to buy a set of dedicated snow tires (General Altimax Arctic) since I had the spare wheels. Wow! What a difference when there is ANY snow on the ground. The difference in traction and control is day and night, to the point that with any snow on the ground I would much rather take the SAAB than our Audi A4 Quattro with "all-season" tires. I liked the dedicated snows so much that I bought a set for the Audi this winter. By the way, they don't ride as bad as you would think they would - the minor extra noise is more than compensated by the positive attributes.
