ps. I meant I stopped using the half-worn Altimax on my 905 for winter; I got another couple years of driving in the other three seasons out of them afterwards, before discarding them at about 4/32". BTW, I know that the conventional advice regarding snow tires for FWD cars is that all four should have the same snow tires. However, for my particular application, the most difficult part of snow/ice driving is actually my own drive way from a parked condition, then the tiny single-end street immediately outside, which is located at the bottom of a slope and usually iced over in winter. So I get to test just how prone to fish-tailing by approaching the street twice as fast as I normally would before braking and making the turn. If the tire set up can pass that test, there is no difficulty driving anywhere else on public roads.

Over time, I realized that even the two top-rated (but melt-away in 50F+) snow tires on the front are quite unnecessary. A brand new set of highly snow/ice-capable tires like the Hankook Optimo H727 would do just fine.
