Not my top drawer for winter tires

See post below. My primary winter snow/ice car is actually the 9-5 wagon riding on 205/65R15 Hankook Optimo H727 tires, which have much more sipes and deeper tread than the General Altimax HP. The wife drives the Highlander V6 AWD. I had two General Altimax HP 16" tires on my 9-5 a couple years ago, placed on the front in 3 seasons, placed on the rear during winter with a pair of Bridgestone Blizzaks in the front. That setup worked fine for two winters, but towards the end of the 2nd winter (i.e. 1.5 years for the tires as I had mounted them in the fall before the first winter), the differential in traction between them and the Blizzaks in the front became quite noticeable in sharp hill-bottom turns (especially if I don't have much cargo in the trunk of the wagon), so I stopped using them. The tires were at 6/32", just about where I would stop using any tire for winter.
I suspect the vast difference in reviews have a lot to do with tire wear conditions; i.e. tread depth.
