Are you running on 17" wheels or 16" wheels? I wouldn't use Ecsta ASX for winter because it's an "ultra high performance" tire that has to make compromises somewhere, namely winter ice/snow traction. My '01 9-5 had four 16" Conti ExtremeContact (not DWS) after the OEM Michelins worn out. The Contis were very good in snow/ice when new, but began to slip on ice after 10k miles or so (also very quiet until the tires had more than 20k miles). At that time I resorted to my first set of Blizzarks for winter, before realizing that an alternative solution is keeping tires like the Conti for only the first 10k for winter, then run the next 20-30k miles during the other three seasons while have a new set of Contis (or something similar) on a different set wheels for the winters.
Continental and General (the same company) seems to have clued in on the nature dynamics of tire technology and online user reviews: they discontinue old models and introduce new models every 3-5 years. The new models tend to get the fantastic reviews because they are new with deep tread and good compound on top layer, and users are comparing them to old tires that they just discarded; as miles accumulate in the next couple years, the first adopters' tires will be worn down (even as user base expand due to good initial reviews), with less tread remaining and the top good compound layer giving way to the structural platform layer that is structurally necessary for the tread depth but not as good themselves in terms of traction . . . a tipping point is reached after 3-5 years, as users of 2+ year old tires out-number users of new tires, just as the bad reviews start to stream in, the model is discontinued in favor of a new model; then the cycle can rinse and repeat. Other tire manufacturers are starting to catching on the excellent marketing game that Continental and General had in the past decade.
