I've never liked GM products, but they ARE a mainstream car maker who has to please a lot of buyers. That's why so many of their cars are kinda homogenized. That's the way it is.
With Saab they really didn't "get" the fact that it was a really different audience, and that bothered lots of hard-core Saab folks. But OTOH, they did stuff to make the later models more reliable. (Durability is another issue). My indy was saying the other day how good the 9-3SS cars are. "All we do is service and maintenance," he said. "They don't really have much go wrong." At least some of that is probably the GM influence. So is the de-contenting or cheapening up on 9-3 and 9-5, so there's some of the downside. But I'd still buy either one used, and likely will in the next coupla years.
