In 1972 I wrote my Congressman to raise gasoline taxes by a nickel/ gallon. The response was dismissive at best.
Even now raising taxes a nickel/ gallon per month for say, 12 months, is the best path for America. With a gradual increase controlled by us we can move people to for fuel efficient vehicles, & have enough money to provide lots of public transport. Prices could be different for Diesel so transport costs would not be hard hit. There would be enough flexibility so the tax could be reduced durning times of high oil prices.
Better roads, less oil consumption, large work projects, and stability in fuel costs- what's not to like?
