I did not buy a new Saab because GM didn't give me a reason to do so. I owned Saab not because the car I was driving had the Saab name on it, but because I value what a Saab offer in terms of practicality (hatch, carrying capacity) and performance, and its unique design.
In 2003, I walked into Spreen Saab in NJ with intentions of buying a new Saab and walk out feeling I needed to start considering other brand to replace Saab as my brand of choice.
The 2001 9-3 I currently drive was my compromise to continue driving a Saab that in my eyes still held some semblance of Saab.
GM took the risk of alienating Saab fans in other to gain market share and in the end offered a product that appeal to neither population. That was GM's decision. And it was gutless, showing GM lack of imagination on how to modernize and bring an iconic brand like to its next level.
GM killed Saab!
