Low volume production means the costs couldn't be efficiently spread out among the cars produced, increasing the pressure to charge a high price for each of the cars actually produced, which they couldn't have done to avoid pricing themselves out of the market.
Locked into this kind of limitation, the result could only be a loss making, unsustainable company.
