I bought a new one 06 93 sc aero in jan 06 because I wanted a small wagon that was fun to drive. It was extremely discounted, otherwise I wouldnt have purchased it. I love my saab.
The reason Saab failed in the US in my opinion was 1) very poor reputation for reliability and expensive to fix 2) poor dealer network 3) overpriced v. competion (unless you buy it with large manufacturers discount).
To me the biggest issue has been the very poor reputation for reliability. Prior to GM the reputation was poor and after GM the reputation was poor. Although it seems that by the mid 2000's they finally got it right.
My thoughts are that Saab has historically been a car that was attractive to tinkerers and do it yourselfers. Most people dont fit that category.
