IMHO, there's a perception that Saabs are expensive to own rather than unreliable. I think some of it comes from folks who haven't maintained their Saabs properly, maybe not realizing that European cars need more care than Asian or domestic blandmobiles. Sure there are lemons or troublesome cars, but that's true with any make. I also think there have been some bad dealers (I had one) but that's not a reflection of Saabs.
We've had Saabs for 27 years, starting with a 1984 C900 which we bought new. We've found them better than other cars we've owned and generally pretty painless to own. They basically just work. Sure, stuff needs fixing, but it's a car...stuff wears out and breaks. It maybe helps that I DIY about 85% of stuff, but most stuff I do is largely normal maintenance and service.
