The fact is people WANT FWD, AWD, spote utes, etc and when you don't give it to them, you do so at your own peril. Volvo/Ford had the sense to give it to them and become a full spectrum company (like every other major car company), Saab/GM didn't(other than FWD). They could have went for a niche like Mini Cooper, which might have worked if they had made Saabs really distinctive, but instead they went for the middle of the road, A4/3series want-a-be approach. So they ended up being neither fish nor fowl, they tried to be a mainstream company (think 9-7, 9-2)but they didn't try hard enough. It's really too bad.
